Install and sign in
Get the app from the Microsoft Store, create your account, and sign in on the website and in the desktop app.
Install the app
| You need | Details |
|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64). |
| Account | An AI Interview Assistant account with an active subscription, to use the app. No product keys or license files. |
| Audio | Headphones are recommended. A microphone is optional. |
| Internet | Needed to sign in and for AI guidance. Speech goes through the service too. |
- Open the AI Interview Assistant page in the Microsoft Store on your Windows PC. The Download page and your account page lead to the same place.
- Install it from there. It is a Microsoft Store app, so the Store also delivers its updates.
- Open AI Interview Assistant from the Start menu. It shows a signed-out screen until you sign in (see below).
You can do the next two steps, creating an account and subscribing, before or after installing. The app can also take you to the website to do them, as described below.
Create your account
There is one sign-in page for everyone, and it also creates accounts: you never fill in a separate sign-up form. Use Sign in in the header of this site (or in the menu on a phone), or go to the sign-in page.
- Enter your email address and press Continue. An address that has no account yet gets one.
- The page says Create your account and tells you it sent a six-digit code to that address. Enter the code and press Create account. A full code is also sent as soon as you type or paste it.
- The page offers Set a password (optional). You can save a password of at least 10 characters for future sign-ins, or press Skip for now and use an emailed code every time. You never need a password.
- You are taken on to the page you were going to, usually your account page.
The code works for ten minutes. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder, then use Send a new code once the 60-second timer has finished. Too many wrong guesses cancel the code, and you ask for a new one.
Customers never need an authenticator app: that extra step exists only for staff accounts.
Sign in on the website
- Go to the sign-in page and enter your email address.
- If your account has no password, the page emails you a six-digit code (Welcome back). Enter it to sign in. If it has a password, the page asks for it, and offers Email me a code instead. If your account has a password, the code step also offers Use a password instead.
- The page takes you on to your account (or to the page that asked you to sign in).
- After five wrong passwords, password sign-in is paused for the account for a while. Ask for an emailed code instead; it does not need the password.
- You stay signed in on that browser for a limited time and are then asked to sign in again. Sign out any time with the Sign out button in the header.
- Some actions ask for a recent sign-in even when you are signed in: downloading a data export and deleting your account. Sign in again when the page says so (it is a sign-in made in the last 15 minutes).
Having trouble? See I cannot sign in and The code does not arrive.
Sign in to the desktop app
The app never asks for your password and never shows a sign-in form. It sends you to this website, in your normal browser, so your saved passwords and your existing sign-in are used. There are two ways, and both start on the signed-out screen of the app.
In your browser (the usual way)
- In the app, press Sign in. The app says "Opening your browser to sign in…" and your browser opens.
- If you are not signed in to the website in that browser, enter your email address and the six-digit code (or your password), exactly as above. A new address creates an account here too, and the Create account button in the app does the same.
- The page Sign in to the app says the desktop app wants to sign in as your email address. Press Continue. If you are already signed in to the website in that browser, this is the only question.
- The tab says "You can return to AI Interview Assistant." Close it: the app is signed in.
Only press Continue if you just chose Sign in in the app on your computer. If you did not, close the tab. Cancel turns the request down, and the app says "Sign-in was not completed. You can try again." The app has no Cancel button of its own and waits with no time limit, even if you close the tab, so finish or cancel in the browser.
With a code, on any device
Use this when the browser on the PC is locked down, or you would rather approve the sign-in from your phone or another computer.
- In the app, press Sign in with a code. The app shows Enter this code to sign in, a short code (letters and digits, like ABCD-EFGH) and the address of the page to enter it on. Open sign-in page opens that page on the same PC.
- On any device, open that address (it is the Connect the app page of this website), and sign in there if it asks you to.
- Type the code and press Continue. The page repeats the code and the account it will sign the app in as. Check that the code is exactly the one on your computer's screen, then press Sign the app in. Not me, turn it down refuses it.
- Go back to the app. It signs itself in within a few seconds. You can close the tab.
A code works once and for ten minutes. If it runs out, press Sign in with a code again for a new one.
After you sign in
- If your plan is active, the app opens on its Session page. If the account has no active subscription, the app shows a card, Upgrade to use AI Interview Assistant, with an Upgrade button, and keeps its pages hidden until you subscribe. See Subscribe.
- The app picks up your plan by itself, including after you subscribe or renew. It reads your plan when it starts, when you press Refresh on its Account page and, in newer versions, when you come back to its window after pressing Upgrade or press Check my plan. If it still shows the Upgrade card after you paid, press Check my plan if your version has that button, or close and reopen the app.
- Each computer you sign in on counts as a device, and your plan allows a limited number. See Devices and the device limit.
Open the website from the app
In newer versions of the app, the Upgrade buttons (on the Upgrade card, and under Plans on the Account page) hand your session to the website with a one-time link, so you are not asked to sign in again from scratch. The app's other website buttons open the plain page, and the website asks you to sign in as usual. With the link:
- Press the button in the app. Your browser opens a page called Continue from the desktop app with your email address.
- Press Continue as your address. If the browser was signed in to a different account, the page says so and that account is replaced. Use a different account goes to the normal sign-in page instead. If the browser is already signed in as the same account, this page is skipped.
- The website opens the page you asked for, signed in.
Only continue if you opened the page from the app and the address is yours. The link works once and for a short time: if the page says This link has expired, press the button in the app again, or sign in on the website as usual. A website session started this way is short, and the website asks you to sign in again after a while.
Staying signed in and signing out
- The app stays signed in when you close and reopen it. It asks you to sign in again if you have not used it for 30 days, when 180 days have passed since you signed in, and if you sign it out from your account page.
- Session expired. The app shows Sign in again in place of Sign in and says "Your session expired. Sign in again to continue."
- Sign out of the app with Sign out on its Account page. While the app shows only the Upgrade card there is no Sign out button; sign that computer out from the Devices section of your account page instead (if it is listed there), and the app signs out the next time you start it. The same section signs out another computer.
- Signing out of the website ends only the website session in that browser. The app stays signed in.
